Pioneers in hydrometallurgy and solvent extraction

MEAB has been a leading player in hydrometallurgy for over 55 years. As a Swedish-German specialist company, we combine experience with innovation to meet the resource challenges of the future.

MEAB METALLEXTRAKTION AB

Efficient recycling from secondary flows

MEAB develops advanced hydrometallurgical processes to extract, purify and concentrate valuable metals from secondary streams such as industrial waste, black mass and residues. As a Swedish-German specialist company with over 55 years of experience, we offer sustainable solutions for metal recovery.

Services and expertise

Complete solutions in hydrometallurgy

MEAB offers a complete range of services in hydrometallurgy - from laboratory experiments to complete process solutions and technical design. We start with chemical feasibility studies where we evaluate the process potential and perform technical and economic analyses. We then develop process flow diagrams (P&ID), define equipment needs and calculate both investment and operating costs.

We also carry out basic and detailed engineering design, including formal requirement specifications and technical documentation for procurement. In parallel, we have access to advanced laboratories and pilot plants to test, verify and optimise hydrometallurgical processes - always with a focus on efficient recovery from secondary streams.

SOLVENT EXTRACTION

Experts in solvent extraction

In addition to traditional hydrometallurgical processes, we are a competent partner for the development and optimisation of solvent extraction. Solvent extraction is a selective separation method to isolate and concentrate a valuable substance from an aqueous solution using an organic solution.

This technology has become very important as an efficient separation process and is increasingly used where traditional methods are no longer feasible or are disqualified due to excessive emissions to the environment.

Lab equipment for real results

MEAB's laboratory in Aachen is equipped with advanced technology for hydrometallurgical testing. These include AKUFVE systems, centrifugal separators and flexible mixer-settlers for the evaluation and optimisation of solvent extraction.

The equipment enables accurate analyses, rapid process development and verification of complete separation flows on a small scale.

We help you further

We are aimed at companies, organisations and research actors who want to take advantage of metal content in residual flows - whether it is battery recycling, metal industry, slag leaching, or small-scale extraction systems.

MEAB offers support from first test to finished process, with special expertise in hydrometallurgy and solvent extraction. We help you who need to evaluate, optimise or scale up recycling processes with a focus on sustainability, selectivity and industrial feasibility.

We work in close dialogue with customers in the recycling industry, the metals sector, energy transition and EU projects with a circular profile.

What we work on

  • Battery recycling (cobalt, nickel, lithium)

  • Waste streams from the metal industry

  • Leaching of ash, slag and filter residues

  • Separation of precious metals in small-scale flows

  • EU projects focusing on circular economy and critical raw materials

Our vision - natural choice for hydrometallurgy

Our strategic vision is to become the natural choice when efficient and sustainable hydrometallurgical separation processes and equipment are required. By combining well-established technology with our experience in solvent extraction, we contribute to the development of environmentally friendly, economically viable processes for metal recovery - with a particular focus on secondary streams.
